I appliqued the vine wreath several years ago, and then it sat in a box until I decided to use it for this auction. The grape clusters were inspired by the quilting stencil which forms the border. I spent the summer "growing" grape clusters and leaves. Eventually there were enough clusters to cover the wreath. My original plan for the center of the wreath was to quilt a path fading into the distance and rows of grape vines radiating off both sides of the path. But wait, what if I appliqued the scene in the center of the wreath. Notice the beading on the rows of ruched grape vines. |
