Artist Description: This block is part of a quilt made for The Reverend Robert Lipscomb, Baltimore, Maryland in 1847. It is currently in the collection of The Lovely Lane Museum in Baltimore. I have had a lifelong attraction and appreciation for all Oriental Decorative Arts. My passion for fiber and fabric came together especially in my expression as an appliqué quilter. My appreciation for history as well as fabrics brought me to the Baltimore Appliqué Society, a unique organization with both my passions recognized. The period that High-Style Baltimore Album Appliqué came into being (1845-1855) made use of the gorgeous fabrics brought back to the West by the Clipper ships. Discerning captains knew these fabrics would be appreciated in the West.
