| Quilt Name: BoB 12 Quilt Maker: Kathy DeShong, Silver Spring, MD Design: Simple Baltimore Blooms Quilter : Kathy DeShong Quilting: Hand Size in Inches: 23" x 23" Artist Description: This block is from the Isiah Mercier/Emory Church Quilt, 1846-1847 in the collection of the Howard County Historical Society. The pattern was created by members of the Baltimore Applique Society. The original quilt is said to have been made for Isaiah Mercier (1781 - 1857) by members of the Sunday School class of the Emory United Methodist Church, Ellicott City, Howard County, Maryland. Most of the blocks are inscribed in ink with names, and two of the blocks contain verses written in ink. The quilt had been in the continuous possession of Isaiah Mercier's descendants until 1984 when it was donated to the Howard County Historical Society. |
