Yoder, Lancaster, PA Design: Sophia's Basket Quilter : Frances Yoder Quilting: Hand Size in Inches: 20.5" x 20.5" Artist Description: The is block 10 from the "Reverend Best Quilt." The quilt was presented to the Reverend Hezekiah Best as he was leaving the interdenominational Seamen's Bethel, where he had been chaplain from 1844-1847. This block was made and signed by Sophia F. Smith and dated 1847. I call this little quilt "Sophia's Basket" in her honor. The block in this quilt is from Loved Lane Museum 150th/50th Anniversary Quilt Patterns. Patterns made by members of the Baltimore Applique Society. |
